Hyderabad: Microsoft India is introducing a women’s safety application for its Windows Phone mobile operating system. The app named Guardian will allow those authorised by the user to track her/him live on Microsoft’s Bing Maps in real time.

The user can also send an emergency text to authorised friends etc. when in distress. The app is only available on Windows Phone-enabled smartphones. Though a majority of smartphone users still prefer Android-based smartphones, Microsoft said its Windows Phone on which this app is available, is among the top three smartphone operating systems in the world and the number two smartphone operating system in 14 markets, including India.

Microsoft India MD Raj Biyani said at the launch of the app on Thursday, that in an emergency, the user can click on the SOS button to send an emergency text to those on the list, which will also contain the location of the user.

Mr Biyani said the phone can be traced even if it is broken by perpetrators of an attack. He said the company’s employees developed the free app in their free time.
