Bangalore: Contrary to the statements attributed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the legislators’ tour, he will not take a tough line on the issue that was raised during the state Congress executive committee meeting here on Saturday evening.
“Two committees have returned after visiting foreign countries and two more committees are ready to go. I will discuss with the Speaker," Siddaramaiah reportedly said, making it clear that he was not opposed to it.
Sources close to the CM said that he would prefer to set out fresh guidelines for forthcoming legislators’ tours.
Dist in-charge ministers worry Cong
Expressing concern over the lackadaisical approach of ministers towards their in-charge districts, state Congress executive committee members said unless these ministers handled drought relief works effectively, it would be difficult for the party to go to the people during the Lok Sabha elections. They appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to instruct these ministers to work effectively.
After the KPCC’s state executive meeting here, a senior leader told Deccan Chronicle, “It seems that district in-charge ministers like to enjoy the power, but do not want to deliver. With the Lok Sabha elections due in the next couple of months, the party cannot afford to ignore drought-like conditions in more than 90 taluks. We need to pull up ministers in-charge of these districts to at least meet drinking water needs of these taluks.”
The source said that the issue was highlighted by KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar, who in his introductory remarks said that there was a need for party leaders to come together to tackle drought in the state and also to strengthen the hands of Siddaramaiah.
While quoting former KPCC president B. Janaradhana Poojary, the source added that the chief minister should expedite the process of issuing caste certificates and khatas to the needy which do not require any monetary support from the state government. The revenue minister should issue instructions to speed up the process.

With people of Karnataka giving a clear mandate for the next government, here is a look at the next Chief Minister designate, Siddaramaiah, who is called the champion of backward classes. The most significant factor is that he will be taking oath on 13th – a number dreaded by many politicians. While most CMs of Karnataka assumed office after elaborate pooja and accompanied by a retinue of astrologers, Siddu is expected to occupy his chair with no fanfare. This is because he is an atheist though he does not wear that tag on his sleeves. With many of the ministers visiting temples and trying to woo people in the name of religion and superstitions, Siddu, the outspoken leader, openly acknowledges that he is an agnostic. However, in the early part of life, Siddu was dedicated to a temple by his father – a tradition in his village Siddaramanahundi. Lawyer by qualification, a tough fighter, he had to learn folklore art instead of alphabets in his younger days. Born into an agricultural family, he had to exercise Kannada alphabets on the sands of his village pond. Apparently, a teacher added his date of birth as August 12, 1948, in his school records, as his father didn’t remember his date of birth. He was enrolled in school in fifth grade and topped the SSLC in school. The seven time finance minister is known for flair for numbers and his remarkable memory, missed his opportunity for the CM’s post twice in – 1996 and 2004, when he was in JD(S). In 2006, he joined Congress and he has been serving as the opposition’s leader in parliament for the past four years. He left the JD(S) as Deve Gowda was keen on promoting his sons and family members.A voracious reader, this leader of Kuruba community has a very private life. His wife’s absence from public eye is a proof for this. Among his two sons, one is an entrepreneur and the other is a doctor.
