17-year-old girl gang raped in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by three persons in Khammam district, while another case of sexual assault was reported in West Godavari district, police said today. 

Three persons, identified as Rama Babu, Nagraj and Venkatesh allegedly raped a teenage girl on the outskirts of Bhavannapalem village under V M Banjar police station limits of Khammam Sunday night and fled after the incident, they said. 

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's family members, a case was booked under relevant sections of the IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and other Acts against the trio and a hunt has been launched to nab them, a police officer said. 

In another incident, M. Mohan, a watchman posted at a government hostel was taken into custody by Eluru II Town police in West Godavari for allegedly raping an inter student, aged around 17, around three months ago on the hostel premises when the girl was alone, police said. 

A complaint had been lodged by the hostel warden and the victim.

Two teens charged for assault on Indian student in Australia

Melbourne: Two teenagers were on Tuesday charged with brutally attacking and robbing a 20-year-old Indian student in Australia who suffered serious head injuries in the incident. 

Manrajwinder Singh from Reservoir remained in an induced coma in a hospital here after being bashed up by thugs early on Sunday. 

Singh, in Australia to study accounts, was sitting with two other friends near the footpath east of Princess Bridge when they were approached by eight men, according to a police statement. 

The offenders, perceived to be of African appearance, assaulted Singh by kicking him on the head and hitting him with a stick. 

A 17-year-old Sydenham boy has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, robbery and theft, the Victoria police said in a statement. He faced an out of sessions court hearing today and has been remanded in custody to appear at a children's court on January 2. 

Earlier, a 16 year-old St Albans boy was charged with serious assault and remanded in custody. The teen was recognised by Protective Services Officers (PSO) from media coverage of the incident, the statement said, adding the PSOs arrested the boy just before midnight at Sunshine Railway Station. 

The third arrest in the case, a 15-year-old Ascot Vale boy has been released and is expected to be charged on summons. A search is on for five others believed to be involved in the incident. 

The police have appealed to the public for any information to contact them. The incident was described as a cowardly attack by Detective Senior Constable Adam Foley. 

"It was just an opportunistic target from the offenders, they've just seen them there and approached them and done what they've done," Foley said. Singh's brother Yadwinder Singh, meanwhile, pleaded for justice. 

"They hit him on the head and he is in coma. I couldn't just believe it. My brother should get justice because he is fighting for his life," he said.

Visakhapatnam: Thirty-three-year-old Subhash Dutta, a sailor with the Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam, was arrested on Thursday by the cyber crime investigation cell on charges of sending obscene and obnoxious SMSes and making telephone calls to the wife of a merchant navy officer.

Inspector K. Satyanarayana of the CCIC said that the victims were living in Malkapuram in the city.
Subhash Dutta, a sailor on INS Rajput, somehow got the mobile number of the officer’s wife and began sending her abusive and lewd SMSes.

He also kept calling her using four SIM cards of various networks. The woman, who was irritated at receiving repeated obscene and lewd SMSes from the anonymous caller, narrated the matter to her husband who then lodged a complaint at Malkapuram police station on September 6, 2013. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the CCIC.

Satyanarayana and his team, including
sub-inspector S. Ramesh, traced the numbers to Subhash Dutta and arrested him on Thursday. The police also seized a Samsung mobile and four SIM cards  from the accused.

Taxi driver lures teen for homosexual act, boy kills him for mobile phone

New Delhi: Luring a juvenile for homosexual act cost a middle-aged taxi driver his life as the teenager allegedly killed him for his mobile phone, police said on Thursday. 

The 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended on Wednesday from his house in Sangam Vihar in connection with the murder of one taxi driver Guddu, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) P. Karunakaran. 

The body of 35-year-old Guddu, a Lucknow resident, was recovered from a park near Adilabad Fort in Tuglakabad area on September 24, and his mobile phone and other belongings were found missing. 

According to primary investigations several drivers at the taxi stands on which Guddu worked since the past 14 years were questioned, it was revealed that a teenager who frequented the area could have committed the crime. 

"It was also found that earlier he used to be seen in the area near the spot regularly but from the day of the incident, alleged juvenile was missing. Finally, on specific information the juvenile was nabbed at around 8.30 AM from his house. He later confessed his involvement in the crime," the DCP said. 

During interrogation, the juvenile told police that he met Guddu on the day of the incident in a bus plying from Karol Bagh to Khanpur. The deceased made sexual advances towards him after which both struck a deal. 

The juvenile also got attracted by the new mobile phone of the deceased. He led Guddu to Adilabad Fort as he used to frequent that place to play cricket, the SP said. 

"Reaching a secluded spot, the juvenile hit Guddu on his head until he became unconscious and then fled with his mobile phone and Rs 50 found in his pocket. He kept the mobile phone in his house and did not use it as he was aware that the police would reach through mobile phone," Karunakaran said. A case has already been registered in this connection, he added.

Warangal (AP): A 24-year-old police constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol here. B Sandeep, who was deputed at Eturunagarm Station in Warangal district, shot himself last night, police said.

According to police, Sandeep had recently got married. However, the couple used to argue frequently over domestic issues.

He came to the police station at around 10 PM yesterday, pulled out his pistol and shot himself in the stomach, they said. Sandeep succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital, they said, adding that further investigation in the case was on.

Agents chop off labourers' palms, one arrested

Bhawanipatna (Odisha): Three days after the right palms of two labourers of Odisha's Kalahandi district were chopped off allegedly by middlemen, one person was arrested on Wednesday and four others detained in connection with the gruesome incident. 

"One person has been arrested and some others were detained in connection with the palm chopping incident," Kalahandi district Collector B.K. Upadhyay said declining to give details saying investigation was in progress.

Superintendent of Police Sarthak Sarangi said labour agent Bimal Rout was nabbed from Dabugaon area of Nawrangpur district, while another labour agent Parsu Naik, labour sardar Parvez Dundi and two other accomplices - Baikuntha Rout and Bana Majhi were rounded up from Khariar area in Nuapada district.

While one of them has been arrested for his alleged involvement in Sunday's incident, the other four were now being interrogated, police said The SP said three investigating squads were formed and sent to different locations to apprehend the accused persons. A team led by SP Sarangi is interrogating the persons nabbed in the crime.

The two labourers, who hail from Kalahandi district, are in a critical state since the incident on Sunday. The two had got themselves admitted to a hospital here on Monday and were later shifted to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla.

The Collector said efforts were being made for replacement of the palms of the wounded labourers. The two labourers, identified as Nilambar Dhangada Majhi and Bialu Nial were among the 12 people, including five women from different villages of Jaipatna block in Kalahandi district, who were taken by two agents about a fortnight ago to Raipur in neighbouring Chhatisgarh.

A complaint lodged by the victims' relatives with the police said they were taken on the assurance of providing them work.

At Raipur, however, the two agents Bimal Rout and Parshu Nayak handed over the two labourers to another person, Parme Rout who asked them to go to Hyderabad from there.

"After reaching Raipur, we were asked to go to Hyderabad. We did not agree and escaped from the agent's clutches. While 10 of us managed to flee and returned to our village, Majhi and Nial got caught," one of the labourers said.

The two men were taken to Nuapada district, kept confined in a village and subsequently taken to Belpada jungle where the agents demanded that they repay the advance taken by all the 12 labourers.

When they pleaded their inability, the agents allegedly cut off their palms, the police said. The other labourers, who had meanwhile, reached their villages, had alleged that they were getting threat calls from the agents demanding refund of the advance money given to them.

Raichur: The Deodurga police on Sunday arrested a priest at Shambulinga temple near Deodurga town, who was absconding for the past one-and-a-half month, on charges of sexual harassment.

The arrested has been identified as Veeresh. A case had been registered against him at the Deodurga police station on November 1 under the Information Technology Act-2008 and Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 392 (A) and 417 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code.

Superintendent of Police M.N. Nagaraj said on Monday that the arrested priest had sexually harassed four women under the guise of offering special pujas.

The priest would ask the women to take off their clothes, while performing the puja. He had also captured the nude puja rituals on his mobile phone.

A complaint had been filed by Ranappa, an eyewitness, the SP said. A team, led by Deodurga circle inspector Ramesh Methi, was constituted to nab the accused.

“Acting on a tip-off, the team arrested Veeresh from the house of his elder sister in Chiragunti village in Muktal taluk of Andhra Pradesh. Attempts are being made to arrest two more accused – Basavaraj Sindhanur and Nagaraj Kambar,” he said.

Woman gang raped and thrown out of truck 

Kanpur: A 45-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by four men in a moving truck and later thrown out of the vehicle in Bhognipur here, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on Naubasta bypass here when the woman had boarded the truck which offered to drive her to Bhognipur. Soon, three men joined the driver and took turns to rape her. The woman lost consciousness and was later thrown out on the street while the accused fled from the spot, police said.

The woman was found lying on the road when onlookers informed the police and the victim was taken to a hospital, they said. The police has registered a case against the three accused however, they claim that the woman and the accused have a history of disputes. The woman has been sent for medical examination and further investigations are on, they said.

Davangere (Karnataka): A 19-year old girl was allegedly brutally assaulted and raped at a desolate place here by an acquaintance, a minor, who has been arrested.

The victim's classmate who introduced her to the accused and helped him in the crime was arrested on Wednesday, three days after he went absconding since the incident on Saturday night, police said.

According to police, the victim, a Bachelor of Computer Applications student, was returning home from her dance class when the accused offered her a lift, took her on a bike and raped her after hitting her with a boulder for resisting him. Her classmate who was waiting at the spot also helped him, police said.

The Karate-trained girl fought bravely before she was attacked, causing injuries on her head, eye and mouth after which she managed to reach home.

She was also burnt on her thigh with a lighter after the rape, police said.

Police arrested the 17-year-old accused, who was charged with kidnapping, rape and attempt to murder, on Sunday and produced him before a juvenile court, which sent him to remand home.

Jaipur: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by three youths in a hotel here, police said today. In an FIR moved through a court's order, a woman alleged that on November 23, her daughter was taken by Phoolchand Meena (25) in a car to a hotel in Daulatpura where he and two of his friends raped her, Vishwakarma SHO Kishan Singh said.

The accused had threatened the victim of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anybody, the SHO said. Meena's two friends are yet to identified, the SHO said, adding that a case under various sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against them.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by Bunty (23) in a slum area of Transport Nagar on November 28, SHO of TP Nagar police station Babulal Vishnoi said.

The accused also went to her house and threatened her uncle before trying to molest her again, he said. Bunty has been arrested under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act, he said.

Ambulance driver rapes minor girl, attempts suicide on remorse

Raipur: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an ambulance driver in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on December 23, police said on Monday. 

However, apparently filled with contrition, the accused, identified as Kiran Kumar, allegedly tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire after the incident, they said.

"A case of rape was registered against Kiran, a driver with Sanjeevani 108 ambulance service, last evening on the complaint of the minor girl in Amabeda police station," said Kanker SP RN Dash. 

According to the officer, the incident occurred on the night of December 23 after the victim's mother, a native of Amabeda village, was shifted to Kanker district hospital in the ambulance driven by Kiran. 

"Kiran Kumar reportedly took the ill woman to hospital in the ambulance and returned to the patient's house. Kiran, who was in an inebriated condition, asked the 10-year-old girl to accompany him saying her mother is serious and needs her at the hospital," Dash said.

However, Kiran allegedly took the minor girl to an isolated place in a forest area and raped her, the SP said.

He said relatives of the victim failed to inform police about the incident even after she confided in them on December 24. 

The incident was reported to police on Friday, following which medical examination of the girl was conducted, which confirmed rape, the officer said. 

When a police team was sent to arrest Kiran it came to know that he had allegedly attempted suicide at his residence on Thursday and suffered minor burns. 

A case under section 376 (rape) of IPC and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offence Act has been registered against the accused, Dash said, adding that Kiran would be arrested after he gets discharge from hospital.

Hyderabad: A newly-wed woman was killed by her husband who suspected her fidelity. He strangled her at their home in Shamshabad. They were married only a fortnight ago.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the victim’s sister visited the couple’s house.

The victim, Anjali, 20, was married to John Adamson, 25, a native of Amalapuram, East Godavari district. John works as an electrician at the Sumo Foods Company in Gagan Pahad near RGIA.

According to police,  Adamson began  suspecting Anjali’s fidelity  soon after their marriage. On Friday night, the couple reportedly had an argument following which he murdered her.

“He strangled her after his attempt to smother her failed. After that, he fled the spot.”  Durga Prasad, inspector RGIA police station said.

Adamson is absconding. A murder case has been booked.

Ujjain: An advocate has been arrested along with his wife on charges of raping and holding a teenager girl hostage for 13 days at their residence here, police said on Thursday. 

The 17-year-old who had gone missing since December 12 had gone to advocate Balkrishna Nagar's residence in Sampat Nagar here that day to get her caste certificate made.

Soon after the girl entered his office, the advocate downed the shutters and sexually assaulted her after which his wife Angrooabla helped her husband to tie the victim to a bed.

According to police, the advocate raped the girl for 13 days but on Wednesday when the residents heard the girl scream, cops reached the spot and freed the victim. 

The advocate and his wife have been arrested and a case has been lodged against them under various sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Meanwhile, the victim has been sent for medical examination.

A young girl's sexual harassment complaint resulted in the arrest of Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal. The girl was bold enough to report against her boss, putting her career at stake. Neither death sentence nor new law has acted as a deterrent. The number of rape cases in Delhi have almost doubled. Till November this year, 1,450 cases of rape cases were registered against 706 in 2012. There is an element of positivity about it, as police say that more women are coming forward to report rapes. Hyderabad: A man allegedly threw kerosene on a woman and set her on fire in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

The victim (aged about 21), a final year student of engineering, and the alleged offender were known to each other, and were having a strained relationship for the last several days.

The alleged offender (30) is a petty businessman and is married, the police said.

According to the woman, the man called her to his shop in Nalgonda, poured kerosene on her and set her afire, the police said. Kakinada: After battling for her life for five days, 17-year-old Keerthi Revathi, who was set ablaze by a stalker just days before her marriage, succumbed to the burns at the government hospital on Monday.

Revathi was set to marry Eswara Sharma of Pensam village in Srikakulam on Sunday at Anaparthi in East Godavari district.

Howver, she was set ablaze by M. Naveen Kumar on December 18, as she had turned down his proposal.
